Dictionary: Integral
An integral is the mathematical operation that is the reverse of differentiation. It calculates the area under a curve.
∫ f(x) dx = F(x) + C
The indefinite integral gives the antiderivative F(x). The definite integral ∫ₐᵇ f(x) dx gives a number — the area between the curve and the x-axis from a to b.
Remember: Integration is the reverse of differentiation — like multiplication is the reverse of division.
